What we do

Our work focuses on knowledge exchange, international engagement, knowledge production, capacity building, and raising awareness. Creative thinking, intellectual excellence and high quality implementation flow across all what we do.

Academic events

Our peer-reviewed academic conferences and workshops are integral to the Silk Cities' being. We bring together global dispersed knowledge to explore underexplored, yet crucial issues being faced by developing nations. Our academic events are interdisciplinary and deal with real life issues cities and communities face.

Peer-reviewed collective Publications

While over 1,000 individual researchers and practitioners directly participated in our international conferences, the impact of Silk Cities knowledge exchange and research projects spread globally through its peer-reviewed publications with Springer and self-published open-access eBooks.  Publication is a tool to disseminate collective knowledge generated in our academic events and through research.   We closely collaborate with academics and researchers from our network to produce peer-reviewed publications.

Mini-lecture series

Our open-access mini-lecture series invites speakers to discuss a number of crucial topics.

Research

Our research philosophy prioritises interdisciplinary thinking to address real-life and complex issues linked to resilience and community well-being, especially in urban and built environment mega systems.

Experimental initiatives  & projects

We are always open to new, creative ideas to explore the built heritage of developing nations through projects, competitions, and much more.
