Silk Cities has joined forces with Springer and published a frontier multidisciplinary and peer-reviewed book, Historic Cities in the Face of Disasters, based on the excerpts from the Silk Cities international conference 2019. Visit here for more details.
In a post-disaster situation, whether as a result of destructive natural or human-induced hazards, the interrelations of historic urban contexts, social, psychological and economic factors present a highly complex scenario for decision makers, practitioners and affected communities and individuals. This complexity requires multi-perspective and multi-disciplinary approaches with the participation of peoples and communities to ensure that the solutions to these interrelationships are sustainable and resilient. There remains a need for greater reflection, analysis and discussion of the issues as these publications begin to explore.
The book:
- Offers multi-perspective examination on this complex subject matter
- Offers new perspectives that sets new directions for practice and research
- Addresses post-disaster reconstruction strategies and case studies from the Europe, Middle East, Asia and Latin America
- Provides a valuable collection and reference book
- Helps researchers and practitioners alike
